The 2018 American Innovation coin is the first release of the multi-year series honoring innovation and innovators from each State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands.
The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The reverse features President George Washington’s signature and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “AMERICAN INNOVATORS,” and “SIGNED FIRST PATENT.” The stylized gears represent industry and innovation.
